Barnes Family Services provides habilitation, respite, and attendant care for children and adults in their home or community.

Job Description

Respite services will provide short-term relief for the primary caregiver. These services can be provided any time of the day or evening that the caregiver requests.

Habilitation services are for individuals that need assistance with working on outcomes that are described in an Individual Service Plan. The certified habilitation worker will come and help the individual meet their outcomes in the home or community.

Attendant care is to help an individual with their personal hygiene, assist in dressing, and helping with meals. Attendant care can be received in the home or community.

Supervised By: HCBS Supervisor
Education/Experience: H.S. Diploma or GED required

Essential Responsibilities

  • Attend to the needs of clients in parent/guardian absence.
  • Provide care consistent with the standards established by the family and/or the contracting agencies.
  • Communicate with parent/guardian about time spent with their children/family member.
  • Document unusual incidents promptly and thoroughly.
  • Inform Barnes Family Services staff about changes in availability.
  • Must maintain client confidentiality at all times.
  • Must abide by all agency policies and procedures.
  • Completion of training as directed.
  • Maintain CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Maintain clear DPS Fingerprint background check
  • Supervise children/adults interactions with peers in a public setting while engaging with them.
  • Follow through with guiding the child/adult through established tasks, measuring their activities, and documenting their progress towards meeting their goals.
  • Reporting a child’s progress to their family and the agency office via required documentation forms.


    Basic Skills/Knowledge
  • Must provide proof of High School graduation (Diploma) or GED.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a method of communicating with the agency and families.
  • Must demonstrate good problem solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to participate in a diverse and collaborative working environment.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds, have the ability to change diapers, and meet the physical needs of assigned clients.
  • Good communication skills, including the ability to listen carefully.
  • Time management abilities are needed to manage a work schedule that is determined by mutual consent of both the child’s family and our Caregiver.
